The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) has withdrawn the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Mr Kunle Ogunba for abusing court process and derailing the course of justice.
The LPPC in a statement signed by Hadizatu Mustapha, Esq, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court who doubles as the LPPC’s secretary, on Thursday said the decision was taken at the 129th Plenary Meeting of the Committee.
According to Mustapha, the LPPC had received a petition against the senior lawyer from Honeywell Group which alleged professional misconduct on the part of Mr Ogunba.
Honeywell accused the senior lawyer of instituting multiple cases in different courts against the company on the same issue in a deliberate bid to abuse the process of court and derail the course of justice.
A sub-committee of the LPPC was said to have been subsequently set up to investigate the petition. The sub-committee found merit in the petition and subsequently recommended the withdrawal of the SAN rank and its accompanying privileges from Mr Ogunba.
In a related development, the LPPC also announced on Thursday that it had withdrawn the nomination of Ms Oluwatoyin Ajoke Bashorun for conferment of the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. It also barred her from applying for the rank for three years.
