Following submission of entries and a rigorous screening exercise, three winners have emerged from the second edition of Paul Usoro Pro bono Challenge. Paul Usoro Challenge is an initiative of the Law Firm of Paul Usoro & Co (“PUC”), which encourages young lawyers to take on pro bono cases, as a way of rendering selfless services to the community and supporting persons who are not able to afford legal fees.
Learned Silk, Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, FCIArb was recently recognized for his tremendous contributions to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria and was given an Award of Excellence by the Equity Chambers, Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.

The 12th edition of our annual business law conference is just four weeks away. For this year, we are focused on Africa, and hence the theme: Bringing Down the Barriers – The Law as a Vehicle for Intra-Africa Trade. The theme is in fact an inspired one. When the Chairman of the NBA-SBL told me to focus on Africa and come up with suitable themes, we did not realise then that the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) was only a few months from reality. Indeed, I had never heard of it. Here we are today; it is the major economic topic in Africa. About time!
