Months ago, an issue on the demand of sex for marks by Prof Richard Akindele a lecturer at OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY ILE-IFE (OAU) from a female student Monica Osagie sprung up in which he pleaded not guilty to the charge of sexual harassment leveled against him by the Independent corrupt practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
In light of this, it has since then been an issue of concern on whether it was a false accusation or not. However, on Monday 17th of December 2018,
“The Punch” reported that, Justice Maurine Onyetenu of the Federal High court sentenced him to 6years in prison after he changed his earlier plea and attested to the fact that he was guilty of the crime. Also, the Sitting judge, Justice Onyetenu after voicing out her discontent on the persistent issue of sexual harassment of university lecturers to female student sentenced the convict to 24months on Count One and two, 1 year on count three and four.
She went further to state that the jail term would run concurrently and the convict Samsung X8 should be convicted while the victims Samsung X4 should be replaced. The defendant counsel Francis Mosotho informed the court that the convict has lost his job and that the university has concluded plans in compensating the victim and has discovered the discrepancies in her examination score and paper which would be ratified.
