A 54-year-old woman, Mrs Mojisola Nathaniel, accused of assaulting officials of the Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) has been charged to a Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba on a three count charge of assault, obstruction and conduct likely to breach the peace.
Mrs Nathaniel is accused of obstructing and assaulting EKEDP’s field operatives on lawful revenue drive on 19th day of November, 2018 in the Mushin business district of the company.

Court documents disclosed that Mrs Nathaniel had threatened to mobilize community members against EKEDP staff on lawful duty for allegedly refusing to reconnect her. She was also said to have assaulted the EKEDP marketer nearest to her.

The incident was subsequently reported at the Mushin Area Command Police Station via a Petition by the EKEDP management. The company’s district office in Mushin also provided necessary details to the police which led to the arrest and arraignment of Mrs Nathaniel.

At the sitting of the court on Thursday, the Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and ordered that she be remanded in prison pending perfection of her bail terms which also included presenting a surety in the person of a civil servant of level 14 with a landed property in Lagos. The case was thereafter adjourned to 19th December, 2018.

Observers in court noted the prosecution and conviction of the accused will serve as a deterrent to other members of the community on the importance of restraint while interacting with EKEDP staff or officials of other companies and agencies.
